Posterior urethral valves (PUV) are extra flaps of tissue in the urethra of boys that obstruct the outflow of urine. They can affect the bladder and kidneys, and are often suspected before birth or in early infancy from a poor urinary stream and kidney swelling.
Early treatment relieves the obstruction (valve ablation) and protects kidney function, followed by long-term monitoring of the bladder and kidneys.

पीयूवी लड़कों की मूत्रनली में ऊतक की अतिरिक्त परतें होती हैं जो मूत्र के निकास को रोकती हैं। इससे मूत्राशय एवं गुर्दे प्रभावित हो सकते हैं। इसका संदेह अक्सर जन्म से पहले या शुरुआती शिशु-अवस्था में कमज़ोर मूत्र-धारा और गुर्दे की सूजन से होता है। शीघ्र इलाज (वाल्व हटाना) रुकावट दूर कर गुर्दे की रक्षा करता है, इसके बाद मूत्राशय एवं गुर्दों की दीर्घकालिक निगरानी की जाती है।
