नवजात पीलिया
Many newborns turn slightly yellow in the first week as the liver matures. Most jaundice is harmless, but high levels need treatment to protect the brain. We check the level with a blood test and treat with phototherapy (special lights) when needed; very high levels rarely need an exchange transfusion.
We also look for causes such as blood-group mismatch, infection or feeding problems.

जिगर के परिपक्व होने तक कई नवजात पहले सप्ताह में हल्के पीले हो जाते हैं। अधिकांश पीलिया हानिरहित है, पर अधिक स्तर पर मस्तिष्क की रक्षा हेतु इलाज ज़रूरी होता है। हम रक्त-जाँच से स्तर देखते हैं और आवश्यकता होने पर फोटोथेरेपी (विशेष रोशनी) देते हैं; बहुत अधिक स्तर पर कभी-कभी एक्सचेंज ट्रांसफ्यूज़न की ज़रूरत होती है। हम खून का बेमेल, संक्रमण या दूध की कमी जैसे कारण भी देखते हैं।
