In type 1 diabetes the body stops making insulin, so blood sugar rises. Warning signs include passing a lot of urine, excessive thirst, weight loss and tiredness; a severe presentation (DKA) is an emergency. Lifelong treatment is insulin, along with monitoring, diet and family education.

With good support, children with diabetes lead full, active lives. We also help families manage sick days and prevent emergencies.
