Keyhole surgery uses a small camera and fine instruments through tiny cuts instead of one large incision. For suitable conditions it means less pain, smaller scars and a quicker return to normal activity. We use it for procedures such as appendicectomy, orchidopexy for an undescended testis that cannot be felt, certain hernias, and diagnostic laparoscopy.
Whether keyhole or open surgery is best depends on the child and the condition, which we discuss with you.
